After being fired by the New Jersey Devils with three games left in the regular season and a first-place position in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference Claude Julien has landed the vacant coaching position for the Boston Bruins.
Julien will take over for Dave Lewis who was let go by the Bruins following a 35-41-6 season that saw Boston fall short of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Lewis is expected to take a new position with the Bruins while Julien has expressed a desire to implement a more aggressive style of play amongst the Boston skaters.
New Jersey was 47-24-8 before Lou Lamoriello fired Julien for not having the team ready for a Stanley Cup run. Lamoriello took over and the Devils lost to the Ottawa Senators in the conference semifinals.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli seems confident that Julien can fix the Boston playoff drought saying, “He demands execution. He demands that his players do what he wants.”
