While in Finland to host a music festival former Playboy Playmate Pamela Anderson appealed to Finish President Tarja Halonen to ban fur farms throughout the country.
Anderson addressed the president in a letter that expressed “it’s time for Finland to move into the 21st century.” While Halonen’s office received the letter the president declined to comment on the issue.
Paivi Mononen-Mikkila, a spokeswoman for the Finnish Fur Sales auction house, said “It's not surprising coming from her, a known anti-fur campaigner. It's really not realistic as so many people earn their livelihood from the fur trade.”
Pamela Anderson has long been a member of PETA, and won the inaugural Linda McCartney Memorial Award for animal rights protectors in 1999.
