The first reviews are in for dream analyst David Rivinus’s new book “Always Dreaming.” They have been posted on Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and other social media sites. The majority are favorable, but there are also those readers who took exception to the book’s most extreme claims.
None of the readers writing reviews had trouble understanding Rivinus’s ideas. After reading the book, even those who disagreed with him had a clear grasp of his theories. But that led reviewers to write strong, sometimes impassioned opinions, both critical and complimentary. “This book shows a whole new way of thinking, where we can expand the knowledge of ourselves…I would highly recommend [it] to anyone who wants to learn more about people…” wrote one reader.
Where there was disagreement, readers took issue with the two most controversial concepts that Rivinus suggests. One is the idea that the experiences we have while we are awake are also dreams. And related to that idea is Rivinus’s claim that we are responsible for all the things that happen to us in life, including our worst mishaps. “Maybe [the author] is ‘Always Dreaming,’ but I am still living in reality,” wrote one skeptical reviewer.
Other readers did not find the book’s ideas troublesome. In regard to the book’s claim that there is less of a difference between our waking and sleeping states, one reader wrote that this idea “has been partially explored in various pop culture films over the past few years.” The same writer concluded, “Should one ever question if something [one experiences] in their daily lives might be a sign, this is the perfect source to start deciding how to analyze it.”
The complete title of Rivinus’s book is “Always Dreaming—Gaining Insights from the Metaphors of our Sleeping and Waking Lives.” It is published by Ozark Mountain Publishing and is also available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
