Portland, Oregon based radio talk show host, Miriam Knight will be interviewing dream analyst, David Rivinus, as part of the inception of a new online radio show called “Rising Stars.” The show will air on May 13 at 11:00 a. m. Pacific time, and can be heard at www.healthylife.net. The subject will be dreams and Rivinus’s new book “Always Dreaming” published by Ozark Mountain Publishing.
The interview of approximately half an hour will cover a wide range of dream-related topics. Among them will be Rivinus’s unusual theory that the events of our days--when we are wide awake—are also dreams that can be interpreted as if they were typical dreams from sleep. Rivinus contends that the unusual or shocking experiences we have during the course of our typical daily lives are not only to be taken at face value, but are also metaphoric communications delivered in symbols. “A near-miss with an automobile, an unpleasant confrontation with a colleague at work, a scary encounter with an animal, an unexpected piece of bad financial news are all examples of what I call ‘waking dreams,’” he says. According to Rivinus, they are actually messages delivered in a symbolic language. He believes that these metaphoric messages can often be dealt with more successfully when handled from that perspective than if they are confronted objectively, head on.
Other topics will include how to tell if a dream is important, the significance of nightmares and some of the pitfalls dreamers experience when they try to make sense of the often-peculiar imagery that comes from dreams. The interview is expected to offer a variety of examples and to suggest techniques for understanding dream content.
