Gulf Breeze Recovery Cites Charlotte's Rising Opiate Addiction

As with many other parts of the country, record numbers of people in Charlotte, NC are becoming addicted to opiates.  According to the latest information from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a record 40,000 people were in treatment in North Carolina in a single day.

In many cases, more traditional routes recommend that these people who are hooked on prescription painkillers or heroin be put on replacement medication that they take for an extended period of time.  These drugs are usually methadone or buprenorphine.  In fact, the last report showed there were more than 11,000 people in the state taking methadone and over 3,000 using buprenorhpine as daily maintenance drugs.

Current statistics show that the number of people in North Carolina taking opioid replacement drugs has greatly increased in the past few years, with thousands more each year adding up.  In many cases these people continue taking these drugs year after year and develop another dependence on them, unable to function without the drugs.  The other approach has been to detox and send them to a traditional 12 step program.

Until recently, there have been few options in Charlotte other than those described above, but now people seeking alternative rehabilitation methods have found Gulf Breeze Recovery.  The innovative rehabilitation treatment program uses a non-12 step approach to treating addiction and is located on the shores of the Florida panhandle near Pensacola beach.  Many people from Charlotte have taken advantage of the short direct flight as an opportunity to find something different to treat their addictions, whether they are dependent on opiates or some other kind of substance.

"We have seen a marked increase in the number of people coming here from Charlotte and other parts of North Carolina," comments Gulf Breeze Recovery founder Barnett Gilmer.  "The majority of those are addicted to opiates when they arrive, but are free from the dependency on any drugs when they leave."

Gulf Breeze Recovery's exclusive facility provides a comfortable, distraction-free waterfront setting to address the problems one faces.  The treatment program offers medically-supervised detoxification as well as physical and mental health recovery methods designed to help people learn how to put their destructive ways  behind them.
