The St. Louis Cardinals received some much needed support in their starting rotation after acquiring Detroit Tigers lefty Mike Maroth on Friday.
It has yet to be announced who the Tigers will receive in exchange for the 5-2 Maroth.
St. Louis has a National League-worst 5.63 ERA amongst starters due in large part to injuries to ace Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder. The Cardinals have been forced to start three former relievers this season.
The Cardinals have gotten little help from starter Kip Wells who was signed to a $4 million one-year-deal in the off season. The righty has posted a 3-11 record with a 6.75 ERA while fellow right-hander Anthony Reyes has posted on 0-8 record with an ERA of 6.34.
