Men’s AP Top 25 College Basketball Rankings Week 13: Kansas Jayhawks Hold Top Spot, Syracuse and Kentucky Inch Up

The Kansas Jayhawks managed to hold on to their spot atop the men’s AP Top 25 rankings for Week 13 after surviving a pair of Big 12 showdowns that included a narrow escape against Colorado and an 11-point win over Nebraska. The Jayhawks picked up one more first-place vote from a week ago thanks in large part to a loss handed to the Villanova Wildcats.

Kansas will have their number one ranking tested on Monday when they travel to take on the Texas Longhorns in one of the most anticipated meetings in Big 12 action this year.

While Kansas holds the top spot he Syracuse Orange are perhaps the hottest team in the country and they moved up one spot to #2 this week following easy wins over Providence and Cincinnati in Big East action. Syracuse has a pair of potentially tough Big East games this week with Connecticut and Louisville on their plate.

The Kentucky Wildcats moved a bit closer to reclaiming the number one ranking they held for one week as they moved up to #3 this week. Kentucky took care of Mississippi and LSU to remain on track for a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament and they could take a bigger step this week if they can take care of Alabama and Tennessee.

Villanova tumbled two spots this week, down to #4 after getting blasted by Georgetown over the weekend. The Wildcats took care of Seton Hall earlier in the week but had no answer for the Hoyas on Saturday. Villanova will have to bounce back quick as they have West Virginia on Monday before facing Providence later in the week.

That showdown with West Virginia will be huge in the Big East standings as the Mountaineers enter the game as the nation’s #5 team. West Virginia drubbed Pittsburgh and St. John’s this past week and after Villanova they’ll have to travel to face Pittsburgh once again.
