It seems like whatever Donald Trump wants to do, Donald Trump does. The billionaire-real estate mogul has thumbed his nose at his Portuguese Bend Club neighbors in Rancho Palos Verdes, California once again.
The Donald seems to love causing controversy at his Trump National Golf Club and his most recent discretion has his neighbors screaming.
Trump opted to plant several hundred trees along the course for what Trump called “beautification and safety” but his neighbors have lost an ocean view and a severe hit to their property value.
It seems Trumps trees have blocked a clear view to the Pacific, a major selling point when showing homes, the trees also obstruct the golf course view from neighbors, another big hit to real estate value.
While Trump says they’re for “beautification and safety” they were originally planted for the Michael Douglas & Friends celebrity golf tournament in April. The trees may have added a cozy feel but more importantly they added a nice green backdrop for the televised event.
Trump has a history of doing his own thing without gaining city permission. He has erected a 70-foot flagpole at the golf course as well as built a tee box eight feet higher than the city allowed.
The trees could be the last straw for residents who are out to protect their property. When Trump built his course he was handed a strict set of city guidelines which included city permission to plant trees and other vegetation as well as a rule against trees that block views for neighbors.
