The original ‘American Idol’ turned pop superstar Kelly Clarkson revealed in a recent interview with CosmoGirl magazine that while she is now comfortable with her body, at one time she was obsessed with being thin.
Clarkson, 25, disclosed her struggle with the eating disorder bulimia and traced it back to an incident that occurred while just a freshman in high school. The two-time Grammy Award-winning singer said the moment she lost a part in a school musical to a skinnier, less talented singer she decided to control her weight at all costs.
“I thought if I came back and I was cuter and thinner — then I’ll get the role. The lesson I took from that was purely superficial, but that’s what I grew up thinking for a long time. It wasn’t smart, and I headed straight into an eating disorder and became bulimic for the next six months.”
While Clarkson admitted to her former struggles she now insists she has subscribed to a new philosophy on the issue of her weight, “I’ve got a butt, I’m Greek — I can’t help that. And I think it’s good for people to see normal. I love food far too much!”
