Dr. Conrad Murray, the man responsible for providing pop legend Michael Jackson with a powerful anesthetic that would eventually play a role in his death, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and if found guilty could serve up to four years in prison.
According to prosecutors Murray “did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson,” something the doctor has denied repeatedly. An autopsy of Jackson revealed the presence of Propofol, an anesthetic used for surgery.
The coroner also found traces of sedatives including Midazolam and Diazepam as well as the painkiller Lidocaine and the stimulant Ephedrine.
Murray had been hired as Jackson’s personal physician as the singer prepared for a series of comeback performances in London. According to Murray he had been giving Jackson Propofol for his insomnia but never prescribed a dosage that would have killed him.
Jackson died at his California home last June at the age of 50.
