While most of the headlines surrounding new releases centered on Angelina Jolie and “A Mighty Heart” it was Steve Carroll and Morgan Freeman who came away with the big prize as the comedy “Evan Almighty” took the top spot at the box-office over the weekend with a $32.1 million haul.
“Evan Almighty” bumped “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” from its one week reign. The Marvel Comics inspired flick fell to number three with $20.15 million in ticket sales. Over its first ten days ‘Fantastic Four’ has grabbed an impressive $97.6 million from moviegoers.
The new horror film “1408” staring John Cusak and Samuel L. Jackson snuck past ‘Fantastic Four’ with $20.175 million for second place.
George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon kept “Ocean’s Thirteen” afloat with another $11.3 million to raise its three week total to $91 million.
The Seth Rogen Katherine Heigl comedy “Knocked-Up” finished fifth at the box-office with $10.6 million pushing its four week total to $109 million.
