Chemical Ali Hassan to Hang Like Saddam Hussein; 2008 Election Impact

For killing up to as many as 180,000 Kurds in 1988, Chemical Ali will be given the same fate as his cousin Saddam Hussein and will be sentenced to hang. This is one of very few foreign policy victories the Bush administration can claim in the Iraq war.

The 2008 presidential election polls currently show that the majority of Americans are against the war. All the Democratic candidates are against the war and none of the Republican candidates are except for Ron Paul. This means that the Bush administration's foreign policy success will have an impact on the presidential race.

The hanging of Chemical Ali will help the Republican cause if it is contained in a string of other positive events. As an isolated incident, it will have no bearing on the race.
