COLUMBUS, OHIO. (July 13, 2016). Flowerama Columbus, a family owned
and operated flower shop, announced they will participate for the fifth
straight year in the Pelotonia bicycling
event held in August that raises awareness and money for cancer research.
Last year, the festivities included a performance by Cheryl Crow. To date, the
fundraising event has raised nearly $110 million for cancer research, helping
organizations like The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center,
Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
Steve Ozment, Owner of Flowerama Columbus, said, “It’s so
important for us to get involved in our community by participating in socially
conscious events like Pelotonia. Every July, we start our fundraising efforts
for the organization where customers can come in and make donations if they do
not opt to do one of the bicycle events. Many customers and businesses make
donations that we then share by writing their name on a card and posting in our
Columbus flower shop locations. Last year, we were honored to attend the
closing event activities and see just how much this fundraising effort means to
those involved in the cancer fight.”
Ozment added, “This is a great event that brings the
community together. All of us have been touched in some way by cancer, having
friends or family that are fighting the battle. The more money we can raise for
research, the better chance we have at saving more people, young and old, that
are dealing with all types of cancer. On this level, participating in Pelotonia
has a personal meaning.”
The cards are available through the end of July for any size
donation at all four Columbus flower shops. Community members that want to
participate in the cycling events, which include many different bike ride
options and accompanying donation sizes, can sign-up on the organization’s
website throughout July.
