Enjoying Fine Autumn Days at Pine Rest Cabins Bed and Breakfast

With summer here, autumn is not far behind. Soon the hot, sweat of July and August will be replaced by the comfortable days and cool nights of September. For those looking forward to autumn, enjoying it at a rustic country inn is a great choice; especially at South Dakota’s Pine Rest Cabins. They are one of the many unique country inns and bed and breakfasts found online at www.iLoveInns.com.

Located near Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and Custer State Park in the famous Black Hills, Pine Rest Cabins offers authentic South Dakota wooden lodgings; some as old as a century! Yet they come with all the amenities, including free wireless internet, cable TV/DVD/VCR, private baths, Queen size beds, and furnished kitchenettes. The Pine Rest Cabins site also features a charcoal grill and picnic tables, sauna and hot tub, and lots of outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, and fishing!

Pine Rest Cabins is a family business run by innkeepers Jan and Steve Johnson. Although the inn is designed to operate year-round, “Fall is our favorite season in the Black Hills,” says Jan Johnson. “Besides the wonderful weather, there are some very special fall activities in our neighborhood.”

For instance, on September 8-9, nearby Hill City hosts the Native American Quilt Show. This event showcases quilts made by Native American artists from South Dakota. On September 9th as well, the Hill City Outdoor Quilt Show and Sale features quilts from around the country; just minutes away from Pine Rest Cabins.

On September 14-16, it’s time for the Mickelson Trail Trek. Laid through the Black Hills – and some say still haunted by the ghosts of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane -- the Mickelson Trail is gentle enough for all ages to trek, yet features more than 100 converted railroad bridges and four hard rock tunnels. 109 miles in length – although you don’t have to walk all of them! – the Mickelson Trail follows the abandoned Deadwood to Edgemont Burlington Northern Rail Line. It’s a true walk through nature and history.

Two weeks later, from September 29th through October first, it’s time for the Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival at Custer State Park. For Wild West fans, this is a chance to see park rangers saddle up and drive the park’s 1,450 bison into the buffalo corrals. All receive a medical checkup, and a select few are chosen for the annual buffalo auction on November 17th; with revenues helping to fund Custer State Park’s buffalo program. The rest will be released back into the park. You can see video of past buffalo roundups at www.sdgfp.info/Parks/Regions/Custer/round.htm But it just doesn’t compare to the real thing, so be there!

South Dakota is a wonderful place to live, play, and stay this fall,” says Jan Johnson. “If you come stay with us at Pine Rest Cabins, you can count on a restful, relaxed, yet exciting autumn escape!”
