Mitt Romney Using His Own Money For Campaign

Mitt Romney disclosed that he had dipped into his personal fortune so that he could finance his presidential campaign. This is the second time he is doing this, and said that he might do it again if the need arose.

Romney also said that his fundraising for this quarter had decreased compared to the first three months of this year.

Romney’s campaign said that he had decided to put his money so that he could capitalize still further on the gains he had made, especially in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Romney’s fundraising abilities have allowed him to have an expensive advertising campaign going and he has been focusing his attention on Iowa and New Hampshire. The campaign has cost him $4 million till now. There is no doubt the advertising has reaped results for Romney. He is better placed now in polls than he was at the beginning of the year.

In the first quarter of the year, Romney surprised everyone by being the leading Republican fundraiser with $23 million. This amount included $2.35 million of his own money that he had put into his campaign the first time.

There is no doubt that the reduction in fundraising for this quarter will have an impact on Romney’s campaign but the impact would depend on his competitors fundraising success. It is expected that presidential candidates John McCain and Rudy Giuliani will do better than what they did in the first quarter.

Romney’s campaign said that this quarter would not be as good in terms of fundraising because of the number of Republican candidates now in contention and expenses involved in campaigning in the early voting states.
