Arman International Industries Inc./DE/ (NYSE:HAR) soared 16.50% to $41.38 after the company reported a stronger than expected earnings. Harman earned $16.1 million, or 23 cents per share. In the same period of the previous year, the company lost $319.1 million, or $5.45 per share, including a $325.4 million charge for goodwill impairment and other one-time items. Excluding $2.8 million in restructuring charges related to Harman's decision to close its portable navigation device business, a $9.3 million goodwill impairment charge and other items, Harman earned 40 cents per share in the latest quarter. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters had forecast net income of 7 cents per share.
Lincoln National Corporation (NYSE:LNC) rose 4.26% to $24.50 on very high volume following the company reported a quarterly profit above Wall Street expectations, helped by the strong performance of its retirement solutions segment.
Coventry Health Care, Inc. (NYSE:CVH) surged 4.20% to $23.41 after it reported much better-than-expected quarterly profit on Tuesday, helped by improved performance in its Medicare and commercial businesses
Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:ATI) shares gained 5% to $42.74.
Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) jumped 4.75% to $53.20 on high volume after Morgan Stanley upgraded the company’s share to Overweight from Underweight.
