As Cyberbullies and Trolls Lurk on Facebook and Twitter, What Keeps Us From Pressing The Block Button?

ATLANTA, GA / October 24, 2018 / Findit, Inc. (OTC PINK: FDIT) a Nevada Corporation offers insight into how Findit is entrusting its users with controlling what they want to see instead of making decisions on its members behalf.

There are few sites and platforms like Findit that are still putting up an honest fight against a homogenized internet. They are trusting their members to simply block what they don't want to see.

Clark St. Amant of Findit "You know you can block friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter and Findit, right? I often wonder how come more people don't just do it."

Every day new studies come out about the effects of cyberbullying and the long-lasting trauma it induces, which leaves you wondering - why don't we just block the haters and the trolls?

With the click of a button, the virtual bully would be relegated to an island in cyberspace. Vanished. Gone. Poofed away into the digital realm. I've read the counterarguments: "They can create other accounts"...block those too...waste their time. "The effects last even after they've been blocked"...talk to your real life friends about it...whatever hate your cyberbully spread is on them.

There are plenty of solutions to the problem, but still, why don't we just use the block button? Cyberbullying is real and it's a valid concern. However, it's also on the individual to deal with it. After all, the offender cannot force you to look at what they say, do, or write. They can't reach through the screen and pull your eyelids open. But you can block them, delete their comments, or in extreme cases, block them and take a social media hiatus.

Sadly, when people have the veil of anonymity, it can lead to the worst side of humanity popping up. Understanding that will help you recognize, most of the time, it's not even personal. These online trolls have legitimate issues with themselves. They're hurting, isolated, and lashing out for reactions as their go-to tactic for getting human interaction.

So if we can control who interacts with us, why is there such a massive push to censor and ban certain kinds of users online? And even more importantly, what's the cost of this type of censorship? Censorship introduces human bias and error into freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech is written as the First Amendment because it was understood that the free-flowing exchange of ideas was what would allow democracy to flourish. The moment the state or an organization can suppress ideologies is the moment they gain absolute control.

We have held good faith in the concept that the strongest, most noble ideas will eventually prevail. And it is also our right to defend them and to be able to withstand confrontation - or to be selective about when we choose not to.

Instead, we have become willing to sacrifice freedom of speech to preserve our feelings. In turn, we're also creating echo chambers or systems in which beliefs are amplified by communication and repetition inside a closed system. People then elect to go inside their echo chambers to seek out information that reinforces their existing views and exacerbates confirmation bias.

Confirmation bias increases social and political polarization and extremism. Each of these platforms, websites, and social networks have their own reasons for censoring users and content the way they do. That's their prerogative. But Findit leaves it up to the user to determine what they don't want to see.

"If you invited someone to your house for a party and they started acting up, you'd ask them or tell them to leave," says Peter Tosto, Findit Marketing Director. "You don't even have to ask them or tell them to leave on social media, block them. It's even easier."
