Substance Abuse/Addiction and Alcohol Abuse/Addiction

The phrases in the title are often used to denote the exact type of addiction a person may have. Substance abuse/addiction is most likely to be used when some is addicted to drugs—whether they be illicit, prescription, or recreational. Alcohol abuse/addiction is frequently cited when a person suffers solely or primarily from alcoholism.

It is possible for someone to suffer from both substance and alcohol abuse and addiction. This problem is sometimes referred to as drug and alcohol addiction No matter what label is used, the fact remains that problems exist, and there are treatment options and programs which address any and all types of addiction. There is no reason, then, for words, phrases, or thoughts such as “hopeless situation” “beyond help” or anything similar to those to even be considered or spoken.

Addiction treatment is available in every State. Many states offer numerous treatment programs, which use various strategies and provide different types of services. A person who is truly serious about wanting to get help for whatever addiction he or she has will have no trouble finding a program in which to feel comfortable.

Even those who may have entered a program—for instance, for alcoholism treatment because of a court or judicial order will likely be allowed to choose the type of program to follow. Circumstances may be such that one must be in a specific type of program for a certain length of time, but after successful completion, an individual choice for a follow-up program will most likely be allowed.

Substance abuse centers in Connecticut are designed to help those who have any type of addiction, including alcoholism. Inpatient programs are available for those who may need medical supervision during the initial withdrawal stage. Outpatient centers can accommodate those who are ready to move from inpatient facilities, or those who can begin a program as an outpatient.
