A QUICKIE, ANYONE?

Towards the end of the final recording session for new hip hop single from NOSUGA- "Hot Girl Light Me Up" in collaboration with The American Cancer Society, Caron Wheeler of Soul II Soul, exclaimed rhythmically with a burst of accomplished energy and lighthearted jest "All I wanted was a quickie..!" Her expressive statement at the end of the single proved to be far more profound than we thought given the cause for which this single was recorded.

Producer/Mixer Christos Tsantilis (https://www.mixbystos.com), Caron Wheeler of Soul II Soul, Singers/Songwriters Katia Cadet, Brianna Rettig, Andrew Mockler, Motown Drummer Jon Ihle, Percussionist Chris TheBerge, New York City-based rapper, Zizzo, Mastering Engineer Leon Zervos, Co-Producers Hassan Gavin, Blair Wells, David Lloyd and many more amazing artists were motivated by the fact that there were an estimated 14.1 million cancer cases around the world in 2012 and this number is expected to increase to 24 million by 2035 according to The World Cancer Research Fund International. A disease that is physically and emotionally depleting as it infiltrates ones being and slowly chips away at one’s courage and power is a disease that needs our undivided attention. The juxtaposition of the slow suffering of this disease with the split second in time that we have in reality to promote such a meaningful cause through this single is an ironic one.

Currently, with over 5 million listens and views collectively we have gradually learned to maneuver the music industry that has found its mother ship online where talent is accepted or discarded in a flash as one merely clicks a button to decide the fate of an epidemic that is being battled worldwide and has taken millions of lives. In the culture of the here and now, we all want quick fixes and instant fame. Who wants to sit with the discomfort of the slow burn of reality? Our undying creative drive and need to be instantly gratified can seldom endure emotional complexity and hence, we click a button instead and hope that spreading our message with success will be a quickie!

The music industry having transitioned into a purely extrinsically motivated, cyber bound entity is both a disappointment and a challenge. We have a fraction of a moment to make our meaningful cause known through our art and music. On one hand, it may feel like a disillusionment that stifles an artist’s cosmically motivated creativity and on the other hand it is a vital opportunity to seize the day. Carpe Diem, dammit! New York City based rapper, Zizzo battled and survived Stage IV cancer and her story inspired the creatively ingenious Producer/Mixer Christos Tsantilis (P. Diddy, Mary J. Blige, Mobb Deep, Mos Def, Brandy, Big Pun, Queen Latifah, Patti LaBelle, Saigon) to conjure up music towards making a difference. NOSUGA represents a collaboration of artists, musicians, singers and producers who came together to create positive music and in this single, to bring awareness of cancer in partnership with the American Cancer Society at lightning speed.

This quickie of all quickies, has purpose. So, click away and don’t forget to share!
