Energy drinks, which are “a 10 Billion Dollar A Year Industry”, are consumed by many people, worldwide every day for that extra boost in the morning, middle of the day or even in the evening. Energy drinks as we know them are full of caffeine, but what else is in them? Ingredients are used to stimulate the mind, the body as a whole, the metabolism and these ingredients can lead to all sorts of other problems such as stress, anxiety, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, restlessness, insomnia and other issues.
With the new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, which found that the heart’s electrical activity was altered and blood pressure increased when consuming these beverages, many of us should consider ways to still get that energy boost without the use of energy drinks.
Eating lean proteins, smart carbohydrates or even getting some fresh air or taking a short walk around the office can help give us a healthy boost, rather than a potentially harmful one.
