Hyundai has announced a recall affecting over 12,000 Veloster Models from the 2019 model year. Affected vehicles have a faulty driver door latch that, if involved in a side-impact crash, could open on its own, which could result in increased risk of injury to the driver.
The problem with the 2019 Hyundai Veloster’s was discovered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as they were conducting side-impact crash tests on the 2019 model. During this test, “the door latch housing and locking cable became damaged causing the door to open,” NHTSA said in the safety recall report.
Following this issue, Hyundai tried to replicate the issue but could not produce the same results. However, out of an abundance of caution they can working on a fix to improve the locking mechanism.
At the time of publication, Hyundai is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this recall. Consumers who have a 2019 Model Veloster should check to see if the vehicle they have affected.
