Mohinder Singh Randhawa, 72, who has worked for Walmart (NYSE: WMT) for 15 years, was allegedly punched in the face by a customer on June 14, 2019. Randhawa, who was standing in the greeting location at the entrance of the Walmart store in Cypress, Texas, said that he was reviewing the customer’s receipt when he noticed that the shopping cart contained gatorade that had not been paid for.
Randhawa told the suspect, “you can scan and take it” adding that he didn’t imply that the suspect was stealing but that every once in awhile a cashier can miss an item.
At this point, suspect Craig Valentine, 42, became agitated and in the security video, it appears that Valentine pushes Randhawa before punching him in the face. The attack, which caused Randhawa to black out, ended up breaking his upper lip and a cut of about half an inch was left on his face.
Randhawa says he is now afraid to return to his job post as a greeter for Walmart. He states that he was only performing the duties that the job calls for and that now “[he is] scared to work that position.”
