Ron Paul Does Not Compare New Hampshire Couple to Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr.
Ron Paul has been credited with comparing New Hampshire tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown with non-violent social reformers Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. The only problem is that Ron Paul never made the comparison.
The Republican presidential hopeful is a self described non violent man who favors peaceful protests over threats and acts of violence. That is in direct opposition to the attitude of the Browns who have been holed up in their Plainfield, N.H. home for months while US Marshals have surrounded their residence. The couple have been convicted of tax evasion and have threatened violence against anybody that attempts to arrest them.
Believing taxes to be unconstitutional the Browns have said they will either die or go free.
While Ron Paul has campaigned for lower taxes and reforming the current tax laws he has never questioned the constitutionality of the act.
