Once again proving his dominance on the grass surface, Roger Federer wasted little time disposing of Martin del Potro 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 to reach the third round of Wimbledon at the All England Club.
For Federer the victory also marked his 50th straight victory on grass and moved him one step closer to equaling Bjorn Borg’s mark of five straight Wimbledon titles.
The match had begun on Wednesday but was halted due to rain. When play resumed on Thursday Federer held a 2-0 lead in the third set and there was little del Potro could do to stop the world’s number one player.
Federer finished with 33 winners and converted five of his nine break point opportunities.
The 25-year-old will now face Marat Safin in the third round.
