An Exciting Addition to the National Senior Games: Cornhole Competitions Wrap Up in Pittsburgh

The National Senior Games, the world's largest multisport event for athletes aged 50 and above, concluded its successful run in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From July 7 to July 18, 2023, the city played host to an extraordinary showcase of athletic talent, camaraderie, and spirited competition. One of the highlights of this year's edition was the inclusion of cornhole as a prestigious competition, in collaboration with the American Cornhole Organization (ACO).

The National Senior Games, which has been captivating audiences since its inception in 1987, has once again demonstrated the remarkable resilience and dedication of senior athletes. The event, held biennially, attracted participants from across the country who competed in a diverse range of sports. In the 2019 edition held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a record-breaking 13,712 athletes converged to celebrate the joy of sport and active living. As anticipation built within the athletic community, this year's National Senior Games did not disappoint.

Cornhole, a classic backyard game cherished by all generations, took center stage during the event. The Sport of Cornhole was designated as an Open Sport for the 2023 National Senior Games, allowing participants of all skill levels to engage in thrilling matches without the need for a qualifying process. The David L. Lawrence Convention Center, from July 7 to July 9, transformed into a hub of excitement, camaraderie, and friendly competition as athletes competed in various categories, including Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Non-Ambulatory divisions.

The cornhole competitions adhered to the ACO Governing Body Sport of Cornhole Rules, ensuring a fair and competitive environment. Spectators and participants alike witnessed displays of skill, precision, and sportsmanship that exemplified the spirit of the National Senior Games.
