The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly set on drafting Ohio State sensation Greg Oden with the number one pick in tonight’s NBA Draft. If the Blazers do in fact select Oden it would then place Kevin Durant in a Seattle SuperSonics uniform, a scenario Seattle is more than willing to accept.
While the debate between who would go number one started shortly after both players declared for the Draft there has been little doubt that they would go one-two when June 28th arrived.
Now that that date has arrived the far more intriguing question becomes who will follow Oden and Durant and what teams will actually be making the selection. As difficult as it is to predict where players like Mike Conley Jr., Al Horford, Jeff Green, Yi Jianlian, Brandan Wright and Corey Brewer will go, it’s just as difficult to figure out what teams will be making trades to move up the Draft ladder.
The Phoenix Suns are among those teams rumored to be looking for a lottery pick. There has been talk about a possible three team trade involving the Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudemire and the Atlanta Hawks. That deal would involve the Hawks number three and eleven pick and would land Stoudemire in Atlanta while Minnesota would ship Garnett to Phoenix.
Charlotte owns the number eight pick in the draft and the Bobcats have indicated that they would be interested in trading down in the draft for a proven player as well. The Celtics were another team that had been rumored to be shopping their number five pick but Danny Ainge has insisted that those rumors are not true.
With just half a day left until the 2008 NBA season begins to take shape several teams are jockeying for position in what many consider to be the deepest Draft in recent memory.
The 2007 NBA Draft will be aired live on ESPN beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
