Following the recent trend of successful groups reuniting for the sake of launching a tour, the Spice Girls have announced plans for an eleven city world tour that will likely bring back the days of “girl power” that turned them into the most commercially successful all-female group of all time.
While the group last performed in 2001 it has been nearly ten years since all five of the Spice Girls shared the stage at the same time. In 1998 Geri Halliwell left her mates for a solo career and within three years the rest of the crew were ready for a break.
The group dominated the airwaves back in 1996 when their single “Wannabe” held the number one spot on the charts for seven weeks in the UK. “Wannabe” went to hit number one in 31 countries and made them a global sensation.
By the time Halliwell left and Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Melanie Brown disbanded the Spice Girls had sold over 53 million records world wide.
Concert dates for the reunion tour have been announced as Los Angeles, Dec. 7; Las Vegas, Dec. 8; New York, Dec. 11; London, Dec, 15; Cologne, Dec. 20; Madrid, Dec. 23; Beijing, Jan. 10; Hong Kong, Jan. 12; Sydney, Jan. 17; Cape Town, Jan. 20; and Buenos Aires, Jan. 24.
