John Edwards’ Campaign Use Ann Coulter’s Remarks For Fundraising

These days it is Ann Coulter, the conservative writer, who is occupying all John Edwards waking and possibly sleeping thoughts! In fact, it seems that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are the last people on Edwards’ mind at the moment.

Coulter is touring the country promoting a book and during those tours, she has been constantly targeting Edwards and other Democratic presidential candidates.

In her recent remarks, Coulter said that she hopes Edwards gets killed in a terrorist attack. Earlier she had accused Edwards of using his 16-year old son’s death in a car accident for political mileage. And, prior to that she had used an anti-gay soubriquet to describe John Edwards,

The attack has become so bad that John Edwards’ wife Elizabeth called up MSNBC’s program, Hardball, to request her to stop personal attacks against her husband. Coulter was appearing in the program.

The conversation between Coulter and Elizabeth lasted for 4 minutes. In that conversation Elizabeth said that Coulter was inviting a dialogue from people on political issues on the talk show and all others based on hate which was not the right way forward. The country would not benefit from all the hate and neither would the people who participated in the dialogues, as the real issues facing the country get lost, according to Elizabeth.

The Edwards camp used Coulter’s remarks to their advantage for fund raising. On the campaign website and emails, the camp made reference to Coulter and requested people to send campaign contributions.

When Coulter used an anti-gay moniker to describe Edwards in the beginning of the year, his campaign used the video of her comment to help raise $300,000 before the end of the first quarter.

Edwards praised his wife for making the call and said people like Coulter did nothing but spread hate all round.
