Rudy Giuliani thinks it is pointless for the US to have negotiations with Hamas, the Islamic group that has managed to capture control of the Gaza Strip. Giuliani feels that the US should work along with Egypt and Jordan to bolster Fatah and to help it gain control once again of the West Bank.
On one hand he wants the Americans to be active participants and on the other he wants American to be cautious. He did not want a repeat of what happened during the Clinton era. He criticized the Clinton administration’s efforts in 1990s when they were trying to broker peace in the Gaza Strip and West Bank along with Yasser Arafat.
Giuliani is known to be an Israel supporter for very long and in this recent presidential campaign he has been trying to focus on leadership and national security in an effort to win over social conservatives.
Giuliani made these comments during a speech he gave at Regent University, which was founded by evangelist Pat Robertson. In this speech Giuliani made no reference to abortion or any other sensitive issues.
However, he did say that he was committed to keeping American soldiers in Iraq; he emphasized that Iran posed a danger. For the first time ever, he distanced himself from the interrogation methods that the Bush administration favors. Though, he did feel that interrogation needed to be tough but more traditional methods of interrogation should be used rather than torture.
