Rudy Giuliani has realized that it will be the votes of the conservative Christians that would pave the way for him to the White House and that is the reason why he did not broach the topic of abortion when he gave a speech at the
After the speech there was a brief question and answer session and none of the audience even bothered to mention or ask Giuliani’s view on abortion.
Giuliani is the only key Republican candidate who supports a woman’s right to have an abortion, and he is also the leading Republican candidate in most national polls.
During his 30-minute speech, he did acknowledge that the audience might not agree with him on everything. He further added that if they do agree with him on some points and feel that he has the ability to lead then they should support him.
Out of a population of 300 million, some 60 million Americans are evangelicals. It is this huge chunk that is a sure source of support for the Republican Party. The social conservatives may not be able to elect a candidate as a president but they do have the powers to stop a presidential candidate from getting elected.
The conservatives have doubts about Giuliani because of his support for abortion rights, gay rights and gun control. Giuliani is well aware of these doubts and he wants them to take into consideration his leadership experience and his promise to stay tough in the fight against terrorism.
However, it is still too early to say whether Giuliani’s views on issues will cause him to lose votes.
