Suicide Bombing in Pakistan Kills at least Eight Police Officers

A suicide bomber traveling along a highway in the volatile Khyber area near the Pakistan and Afghan border slammed his vehicle into a police van, detonating an explosive that killed at least eight officers and five civilians.

According to reports the police officers were conducting a routine patrol along a stretch of road when the suicide bomber attacked. The blast destroyed several other vehicles near the patrol van and left an undisclosed number of civilians injured.

Officials have not said who is responsible for the attack but the bombing is consistent with militants tied to the Taliban and al-Qaeda.
