The highly anticipated documentary from Michael Moore “Sicko” hits theaters today and is expected to draw large crowds for the controversial director.
In “Sicko” Moore investigates and uncovers the glaring flaws that exist within the American health care system and the insurance companies who make huge profits off their customers.
Known for his scathing attacks on George Bush in “Fahrenheit 9/11,” America’s gun culture in “Bowling for Columbine” and General Motors in “Roger and Me” Moore launches his assault against America’s HMOs who have been known to deny clients medical attention in order to remain profitable.
Moore screened “Sicko” at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and many felt he would have taken the top prize had he entered the documentary in the competition. Having already won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Golden Palm for “Fahrenheit 9/11” in 1994 and 1992’s 55th Anniversary Prize for “Bowling for Columbine” Moore decided not keep the film out of category to refrain from denying another movie the chance of winning.
