Obama Launches New Television Commercials

Barack Obama has begun introducing himself to Iowa voters through television commercials. The ads were launched a couple of days ago and they tell the story of Obama’s career before he became a Senator.

Obama is expected to launch a full advertising campaign by fall but his campaign is trying to make sure the voters get to know him better by talking about his life before he came to the attention of the nation when he delivered the keynote speech at the Democratic convention in 2004.

Obama’s campaign is using two television commercials and they do not mention his time in the United States Senate. The ads, instead, focus on his career from the time when he was a community organizer in Chicago to his time in the Illinois State Senate.

Obama is the third Democratic candidate to run television ads for his campaign. The other two are Gov Bill Richardson of New Mexico and Senator Christopher J Dodd of Connecticut. They have been broadcasting their advertisements in Iowa and New Hampshire.

There is no indication from Obama’s campaign as to how often the ads will run. The only answer his aides are ready to give is that the campaign ads are so-called modest.

Republican Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, has spent more $4 million on television commercials in the early months of the presidential race. No Democratic candidate has managed to match the spending done by Romney.

The Iowa caucuses are still six months away and presidential candidates are wary of spending their money. Most of them will launch an attack in fall when the voters are checking out the candidates even more closely.
