Chaos in Sri Lankan Capital

World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

In the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, thousands of opposition activists have clashed with government supporters.

As of now, at least eight people have been hurt in the violence. Officials reported that police have fired tear gas to disperse the crowds. The opposition is angry at the arrest of losing presidential candidate, General Sarath Fonseka this week.

Sri Lanka's recently re-elected President Mahinda Rajapaksa is dissolving parliament, clearing the way for early elections, officials say.
