This has been a big week for Google who after introducing the new Google Buzz Wednesday announced it would design a high-speed broadband network for as many as half a million people in the United States running at over 100 times present speeds.
Google takes a holistic approach to its business strategy. By improving the network it operates on, the company believes it can generate more web ads. Making internet better and faster will encourage more internet use in the form of regularizing practices like 3-D internet conferencing and class rooms.
The company outlines their strategy, which employs fiber optic lines brought into individual homes, similar to telecommunications enterprises. Google’s latest move would put the ever-expanding empire in competition with providers like Verizon and AT&T if it succeeds.
Google believes the changes will revolutionize the way we experience the internet and the already incredibly pervasive role it plays in our lives. The company has invited cities and states who would like to be among the first to participate to apply by March 26 via a link in the Google blog.
