While Bruce Willis was busy thwarting another terrorist attempt to take over the world in “Live Free or Die Hard” a rat snuck up the box-office ladder and grabbed the top spot from last week’s bread winner “Evan Almighty.”
Disney’s “Ratatouille,” the Pixar flick that follows a rat who aspires to cook in a gourmet French restaurant, brought in $47.2 million to take easily surpass Willis and the ‘Die Hard’ cast which brought in $33.15.
Bruce Willis and company did finish in second and bumped their total gross to $48.2 million since opening last Wednesday.
Both “Ratatouille” and “Live Free or Die Hard” cruised past “Evan Almighty” which slipped from number one to number three with a $15.1 million weekend. The Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman has now grossed $60.6 million during its ten-day opening.
Michael Moore cracked the top ten with his documentary “Sicko” about the American health care system. While showing on just 400 screens the film brought in $4.5 million to earn the second highest opening ever for a documentary. The gross was good enough for the ninth spot at the box-office trailing Johnny Depp and his ubiquitous crew who brought in an addition $5 million to inch closer to the $300 million mark at the domestic box-office.
