New York Yankees Ace Roger Clemens Collects Win No. 350

New York Yankees starter Roger Clemens collected win number 350 on Monday night after limiting the Minnesota Twins to just two hits over eight innings in a 5-1 victory.

Clemens became the first major league pitcher to capture 350 career victories since Warren Spahn recorded number 350 on Sept. 29, 1963. Clemens is currently eighth on the all time wins list, eleven behind Kid Nichols and thirteen behind Spahn.

The Yankees got on the board in the first after Alex Rodriguez hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Johnny Damon. It was Rodriguez’s 80th RBI of the season and gave New York an early 1-0 lead.

Minnesota tied it in the top of the second after Jason Kubel hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Michael Cuddyer.

It looked like the Twins would get to Clemens in the fourth after Joe Mauer doubled to start the inning but Cuddyer flied out to center, Justin Morneau fouled out to third base and Torii Hunter grounded out to Derek Jeter to end the threat.

New York went ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Bobby Abreu hit his 5th homerun of the year for a 2-1 lead. The Yankees went on to add three more runs in the frame for the 5-1 advantage.

Clemens, who didn’t allow a hit after Mauer’s double in the fourth, retired the final 15 batters he faced to improve to 2-3 on the year.
