There will be no repeat at Wimbledon for Amelie Mauresmo after the Frenchwoman fell 6-7, 6-4, 1-6 to Czechoslovakian Nicole Vaidisova on Centre Court at the All England Club on Tuesday.
Mauresmo was often dominant with her serve, totaling 13 aces in the match but also committed 14 double faults on the way to 37 unforced errors in the match. The 18-year-old Vaidisova capitalized on Mauresmo’s sloppy play and managed to find her way into the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time.
Entering the Grand Slam event as the fourth seed Mauresmo appeared ready to take the first set when she built a 6-3 lead in the tie breaker but she gave up five straight points to Vaidisova. After taking the second set with little difficulty Mauresmo instantly found trouble in the third and fell behind 3-0 and couldn’t climb out of the hole.
Vaidisova recorded just one ace throughout the match but committed only five double faults.
