Venus Williams stayed on path for her fourth Wimbledon singles title on Thursday after beating No. 5 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals at the All England Club.
While Williams served up just three aces in the match she did win 76 percent of her first serve offerings while limiting Kuznetsova’s first serve winners to 60 percent.
Williams has come on strong in the Grand Slam event after starting slowly in the opening rounds. Coming into Wimbledon Williams earned the No. 23 seed but has quickly proven that the number should have been higher. On Wednesday she easily handled former champ Maria Sharapova in straight sets.
The American will now face off against either Ana Ivanovic or Nicole Vaidisova in the semifinals.
