Cocaine - Biggest Threat To Louisiana

Louisiana continues to be a major hub for illegal drugs. There are several factors that play into this; its proximity to ports on the Gulf of Mexico, drug trafficking on the highways and New Orleans as a city full of drugs. All these factors contribute to the state of Louisiana having an increased amount of drugs and crime.

The biggest drug threat in Louisiana is cocaine. Traditionally cocaine and crack cocaine were only found in urban areas. This has changed and cocaine can now be found throughout the state. Most of the powdered cocaine is turned into crack cocaine It is common that areas with high crack cocaine traffic have higher amounts of crime as well.

Narconon Louisiana, a non-profit drug and
alcohol rehab facility has seen the devastation that addiction has caused to the area and provides a new, unique solution to substance abuse problems in Louisiana. The center was opened after the state saw some of the worst destruction in years after Hurricane Katrina, and there was no real solution in place for drug abuse in the state. After four years in operation, 150 graduates, Narconon Louisiana has maintained that the people of Louisiana do not have to suffer from addiction without a real solution for permanent recovery.

The first part of the Narconon
drug treatment program is the New Life Detoxification program. This is the part of the Narconon program where clients are able to rid their bodies of the harmful drug residues that store in the fatty tissues. It has been found that these residues can stay in the body years after consumption, occasionally dislodging from the fatty tissue, causing cravings, which then lead to relapse.

The second part of the Narconon drug treatment program subscribes to the idea that addiction is not a disease, but instead, works on isolating the underlying mental and emotional issues that caused the individual to start using drugs in the first place. Once these issues are fully handled the addict is able to fully recover from drug and/or alcohol addiction.

Jeff Lukas, Executive Director of Narconon Louisiana explains, “Often times when an addict is approached with enrolling in a drug rehab they refuse, they deny they have a problem, they leave the area. It’s very hard for a person who is addicted to drugs to imagine their life without the drugs. Because essentially they are being asked to live their life without the only thing that makes their life worth living.”

With a more than 76% success rate, Narconon offers a real solution for drug abuse. If you or anyone you know is in need of help please call
