Despite the urging of several backers to enter the presidential race former Vice President Al Gore has declared that he has ‘fallen out of love with politics” and would rather focus his energy on alleviating global warming.
Appearing on NBC’s “Today Show” Gore said “Whatever experience and talents I've gained over the years, I think it may well be that the highest and best use of that is to try to bring enough awareness of the solutions to the climate crisis and enough of a sense of urgency that we come together across party lines on behalf of our children.”
Gore has refused to endorse any Democratic presidential candidate which has led many to believe he may still enter the race but Gore appears adamant about his decision.
Rather than campaign for votes Gore has turned his attention to environmental issues and most significantly towards global warming. During the interview Gore addressed the fight against global warming and singled out the American people saying “When the American people have the awareness of what this means for their children, and for their grandchildren, that all of civilization is at risk here, then they will demand that whoever is running for office, whoever is elected to serve, will have to respond to this.”
Gore orchestrated the Live Earth concerts that are set for Saturday as a way of bringing to light the issues that surround global warming as well as what part individuals can play in curbing the damage done to the environment.
Live Earth concerts will be held in seven cities; New York, London, Johannesburg, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney, and Hamburg. Rio de Janeiro was to host a concert but the show was cancelled due to security concerns.
