Despite a second set stumble Roger Federer remained on track to capture his fifth straight Wimbledon title after beating Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 on Friday.
Federer and Ferrero began their match on Thursday but their contest was halted at 5-5 in the first set when the rain began to fall.
When play resumed on Friday Federer managed to take the first set but then dropped the first set of his 2007 Wimbledon run in the second. The dropped set seemed to spark Federer who went on to manhandle Ferrero in the remaining two sets to advance to the semifinals.
Federer completed the match with 15 aces compared to just three from Ferrero. It was the overall service game of Federer that captured the match as he won 81 percent of his first serve offerings and totaled 51 winners compared to 19 for Ferrero.
Up next for the Federer will be the winner of the Andy Roddick and Richard Gasquet match.
