Earlier today Jim Leyland and Tony La Russa revealed their starting pitcher as well as their batting lineup for the 78th MLB All-Star game on Tuesday night.
Leyland announced that Oakland Athletics’ ace Dan Haren will take the hill to start for the American League while Tony La Russa is putting the ball in the hand of San Diego Padres starter Jake Peavy for the National League.
With the game being played in San Francisco Leyland said that the decision to start the 10-3 Haren was easy, saying “I'd be lying if I didn't say it was a nice extra touch since he pitches right across the bay in Oakland.”
Heron will have to face New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes to start the game and San Francisco Giants leftfielder Barry Bonds will follow in the two spot. Centerfielder Carlos Beltran will be hitting third while Reds rightfielder Ken Griffey Jr. will be batting cleanup for the National League. Mets third baseman David Wright hits fifth and he’ll be followed by Milwaukee Brewers big man Prince Fielder playing first base. Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin earned the start and will be batting seventh followed by Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley.
As for the 9-3 Peavy he’ll have to face Seattle Mariners centerfielder Ichiro Suzuki to start the game and then pitch to New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Hitting third and playing first base will David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox and Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be in the cleanup spot. Los Angeles Angels rightfielder Vladimir Guerrero will hit fifth while Detroit Tigers leftfielder Magglio Ordonez assumes the sixth spot in the batting order. Ordonez will be followed by Tigers teammate and catcher Ivan Rodriguez who will then be followed by Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco.
The MLB All-Star game will be played Tuesday night beginning at 8:25 p.m. ET on Fox.
