Pittsburgh Penguins fans can breath a little easier now that they know Sidney Crosby will be around for an additional five years once his current contract ends this coming season.
Crosby, the NHL’s reigning MVP, led the league with 120 points last year with 36 goals and 84 assists. He was named the Penguins captain at 19-years-old, making him the youngest player to hold that title in NHL history.
The five-year extension is worth $45 million.
While Sidney Crosby collected the Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP he was also presented with the Art Ross Trophy for leading the league in points as well as the Lester B. Pearson Award as the most outstanding player in the league as voted on by members of the NHL Players Association. Crosby was also named to the First All-Star Team in 2007.
