Katie Couric isn’t trying to fool anybody, nor is she willing to sugar-coat her problematic transition from morning television to nightly news anchor. In a recent interview with New York magazine the 50-year-old Couric admitted “I have days when I’m like, ‘Oh my God, what did I do?’” when it questioned about her decision to leave NBC’s “Today” show for the anchor spot on “CBS Evening News.”
Since her move to CBS the ‘Evening News’ broadcast has fallen into a distant third in ratings and Couric has fielded most of the blame for the results. Couric addressed the public backlash by saying “I've gone through a bit of a feeding frenzy and there's blood in the water and I've got some vulnerabilities. This person who's been successful isn't so great, and finally she's been put in her place - that kind of mentality. I think it's fairly primal.”
To attract Couric to ‘Evening News’ CBS customized much of the position but have since scaled back those modifications in order to present a more traditional approach to the evening news.
Those changes actually sparked Couric to say had she known the changes were going to be made then the position “would have been less appealing to me. It would have required a lot more thought.”
