Oklahoma Football Must Forfeit Wins from 2005 Season

The Oklahoma Sooners saw their 8-4 record from the 2005 season turn to 0-12 after the NCAA ruled that the football program must forfeit their wins due to rules violations related to three players on the squad.

Oklahoma had been under investigation after quarterback Rhett Bomar and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn were discovered to have been paid for work they never performed at a car dealership near the school.

Along with the forfeiture of victories the school will also lose two scholarships for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

Both Bomar and Quinn, along with walk-on Jermaine Hardison were dismissed from the Oklahoma Sooners football team prior to the start of the 2006 season. In the NCAA report that detailed the penalties it was noted “Although this case centered on a few violations involving three student-athletes, the committee finds this case to be significant and serious for several reasons,” noting that the school “demonstrated a failure to monitor” athletes who held employment.

As part of the ruling Oklahoma forfeited their 2005 Holiday Bowl victory over Oregon and head coach Bob Stoops had his record changed from 86-19 to 78-27.
