As the saying goes, opposites attract, and on Thursday evidence supported that idiom when Bao Xishun married Xia Shujuan in a traditional Mongolian ceremony at a resort spot near the city of Erdos in China.
Standing 7-foot, 9-inches, Bao is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s tallest man. His new wife, Xia, stands 5-foot, 6-inches and at 29-years-old is nearly half his 56-years-of-age.
While the pair was legally married in March they wanted to have a traditional ceremony as well. To make that possible more than 15 companies offered to sponsor the event, taking care of everything from the food and drink to the clothes on their back.
Bao makes a living herding livestock but has hired himself out for publicity stunts and public appearances while Xia holds a job as a saleswoman.
When asked about the possibility of children Bao told a Reuters reporter “If we have a child, I hope he or she can be 1.8-1.9-metres tall (5-9, 6-2). Then he or she can play basketball.”
