Yemeni Rebels Continue Attacks on Government Forces Despite Ceasefire Declaration

Just hours after government leaders and Yemeni rebels agreed to a ceasefire declaration a battle between the two sides erupted resulting in the death of one soldier and a government official.

The attack was initiated by Houthi rebels who opened fire on several vehicles in the Iqab district in the north of the country. According to Interior Minister Mohammed al-Qawsi the ceasefire was still intact despite the attack, saying many of the rebels were unaware of the new agreement.

That agreement came after days of negotiations in which both sides expressed doubt about the seriousness of the other.
