Its been just over a week since “Transformers” broke the box-office record for a Tuesday debut when it brought in $27.4 million and now the recently released “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has surpassed the Wednesday debut record previously held by “Spider-Man 2.”
The $44.8 million hauled in by ‘Harry Potter’ cruised past the $40.4 million take for the 2004 debut of ‘Spider-Man’ and set up a promising weekend that should easily put the film on course for a $300 million run domestically.
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Emma Thompson and Rupert Grint, ‘Harry Potter’ hit screens at midnight in many theaters and has been running countless screenings since.
“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” is the fifth installment in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. J.K. Rowling is set to rollout the seventh and final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows,” within two weeks.
