The Balancing Act remembers, as probably most of us do…. watching Picabo Street in the 1994, 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics. She took home a gold medal in 1994 and silver in 1998 in downhill skiing. Picabo along with Dr. Lisa Roberts join the show to talk about Picabo’s personal story that involves a permanent birth control procedure surgery called-- ESSURE. Picabo says, “We knew that our family was complete, so we knew we were at the permanent birth control category. I started researching our options, hoping there was something better than tubal ligation available for myself-- and a vasectomy for my husband. That’s how I found ESSURE.”
Dr. Roberts explains, “Essure consists of the insertion of small flexible micro-inserts through the body’s natural pathways and into the fallopian tubes, forming a barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg.”
Picabo shares her story throughout the show, and Dr. Roberts talks more in depth about the procedure, including the risks as well as benefits. For more information go to http://www.essure.com/.
